No Turkey nor any other meat for me for Thanksgiving

The Original Starfish Story found in ”Star Thrower,” a collection of essays by the naturalist and writer Loren Eiseley 1978

“One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he asked, ‘What are you doing?’The youth replied, ‘Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.’‘ Son,’ the man said, ‘don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference!’ After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said…‘I made a difference for that one.’”

I got my eyes set on the green beans casserole, on the meatless stove top stuffing, on the fresh green salad, on the cranberry jelly (my personal favorite), on the mashed potato, on the baked sweet potato, on the potato salad, on the sweet corn, on the hot buns, on the biscuits, on the baked beans without the bacon, on the black olives, on the apple pie and on the pecan pie. Looks like almost all of what will be served on the table but the turkey and ham for Thanksgiving. Not having turkey or ham on my plate, I hope I save one or two animal lives at the end.
