No Turkey nor any other meat for me for Thanksgiving

The Original Starfish Story found in ”Star Thrower,” a collection of essays by the naturalist and writer Loren Eiseley 1978

“One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he asked, ‘What are you doing?’The youth replied, ‘Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.’‘ Son,’ the man said, ‘don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference!’ After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said…‘I made a difference for that one.’”

I got my eyes set on the green beans casserole, on the meatless stove top stuffing, on the fresh green salad, on the cranberry jelly (my personal favorite), on the mashed potato, on the baked sweet potato, on the potato salad, on the sweet corn, on the hot buns, on the biscuits, on the baked beans without the bacon, on the black olives, on the apple pie and on the pecan pie. Looks like almost all of what will be served on the table but the turkey and ham for Thanksgiving. Not having turkey or ham on my plate, I hope I save one or two animal lives at the end.

An Appeal... to those who care to listen - we need you to speak for the animals

I posted this in my other blog 4salamatanimals.blogspot.com. I thought it will be a good idea for me to create this page.
My husband & I went to Best Friends on January 1st. We drove from Las Vegas in the morning to Kanab, Utah where the sanctuary is and drove back to Las Vegas in the afternoon.

Best Friends is a no kill animal sanctuary. It is a beautiful place, and most importantly, all of the animals are well taken care of. It is a well run organization. I asked the driver who gave us the tour how the sanctuary got started and she said it was started by a group of friends, hence, Best Friends, over 20 years ago.

I was thinking about how we could effectively help the stray animals in Samar, and the idea came to me as we were driving back to Las Vegas. Group of Friends. I immediately called the lady I met when I was on vacation in Samar last October. She is an animal lover and she came to SALAMAT Animal Shelter to meet me. She immediately became a friend and we talked about the plight of the strays in Samar. I told her about the idea of asking several friends, animal lovers and other concerned individuals to form an alliance so we can start a sanctuary in Samar. She was the first person I asked, and she enthusiastically agreed. I called another friend in Modesto, California and she too is willing to be in this project. It was also nice to hear from someone I have not met in person yet but already considered a friend. I e-mailed him and mentioned the sanctuary. He wants to be a part of this endeavor volunteering his expertise as an animal trainer. We need more people.

If you are interested and want more information about the plan of action, please e-mail me at  salamat4animals@gmail.com

We want to hear from you. Tell us your ideas. Tell us your experiences with animals. We need you to help us.....for the animals. Please visit my other blog http://4salamatanimals.blogspot.com/
